Giovanni Bellini

Portrait of Bellini
Giovanni Bellini was born in Venice in 1430 and died in 1516. Bellini was an Italian Renaissance painter, best known from the Bellini family of venetian painters. He began his career in his father's studio. His paintings from the early period are all executed in the old tempera method (permanent fast drying painting medium consisting of colored pigment mixed with a water-soluble binder). Bellini painted alot of religious scenes and he was talented when it came to landscapes. A while after his death, most of his greatest works were destroyed in a church fire in the year of 1577. Bellini was the most important painter active in Venice during the 15th century.
